Mi Familia en Acción has launched Nubi, a bilingual, AI-powered tool the organization calls a “civic participation coach,” designed to help Latino families find their way through voting, voter registration, citizenship and their rights.

Nubi works in English and Spanish and is available to the public at AskNubi.org, according to the organization’s Oct. 5 announcement. In an interview with N+ Univision, Mi Familia en Acción president and CEO Héctor Sánchez Barba said users can ask how to register, how to vote, how to vote by mail and how to start the citizenship process.

Curated information instead of the open web

Unlike general-purpose AI assistants, Nubi does not draw its answers from open-web searches. The organization told Axios that it supplies the tool with information from sources it considers reliable, an approach meant to reduce misinformation.

“Technology should break down barriers, strengthen communities, and expand civic participation in our democracy,” Sánchez Barba said in the launch announcement. Denis Cook, the group’s chief innovation officer and Nubi’s developer, said, “Our communities deserve technology that reflects their lived experiences and earns their trust.”

Built to support organizers, not replace them

According to the announcement, Nubi is meant to supplement Mi Familia en Acción’s organizers and community leaders. By handling routine questions, the organization says, the tool frees staff to spend more time building relationships and offering one-on-one support as voters prepare for the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

Sánchez Barba told N+ Univision that the tool does not keep users’ personal information.

Voters can confirm registration status, deadlines and polling places with their state election office through vote.gov. Our voting guide links to the official source for each step.
